Wilfred Edward Salter Owen, MC was an English poet and soldier. He was one of the poets of the First World War. His war poetry on the horrors of the trenches and gas warfare was heavily influenced by his mentor Siegried Sassoon and stood in stark contrast both to the public perception of the war and to the confidently patriotic verse written by earlier poets such as Rubert Brooke. Among his best known works  - most of which were published posthumously are - 

'Dulce et Decorum est'  -  'Insensibility' -  'Anthem of the doomed youth' -   'Futility'   -   'Spring Offensive'   -  'Strange Meeting'

Killed:  November 4th 1918 - Ors, France

Education : University of Reading, Wakeman School

Known for his anger, the cruelty and waste of war and his pity for its victims.
